Facts About MRI
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows your physician to view your body's interior without X-rays or surgery.
- A clear image is produced. This allows for accurate diagnosis of your medical condition.
- A large magnet and radio waves are used to generate information about your body. A computer then converts the information into pictures.
- The machine is a long cylinder with a platform where you will lie during the test. The platform moves into the cylinder to cover the part of the body the technologist will scan. When the machine is on, you will hear a series of hammering noises. These are not harmful.
- It is important that you remain as still as possible so that clear images will be produced.
- The MRI exam usually takes less than an hour depending on the type of exam.
