Outpatient Programs

Outpatient Programs
Forsyth Medical Center Behavioral Health offers a broad array of outpatient programs, which allows us to treat patients with both psychiatric and substance abuse problems.
Our continuum of care includes:
Detoxification
This inpatient service is medically necessary when withdrawal symptoms are severe enough that the patient cannot be safely managed on an outpatient basis.
Partial Hospitalization
The partial hospitalization behavioral health program is for people who need the structure and stability of a day program, but are able to return to their homes in the evening. The program is designed to help patients develop and implement alternative coping skills to deal with their particular issues, whether it's recovery from addictive substances or emotional/mental issues.
Particular Therapeutic Services Include:
  • Stress management
  • Illness education
  • Medication education
  • Coping skills training
  • Relapse prevention for depression and anxiety
  • Discharge planning
  • Education on community resources
  • Support groups
  • Emotional processing
  • Personality education
  • Distorted thinking
  • Basic healthy living and self-care
  • Steps to recovery
Partial Hospitalization Program Format
The program format is group oriented. This means that all the therapy is involved within the group process and the psychoeducation classes. The first day of the program begins at 8 a.m. with orientation and evaluation. Regular program hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Intensive Outpatient Programs
Day or evening hours are offered Monday through Friday so that patients can attend treatment while continuing to work. This level of care offers up to ten hours of treatment per week. An individualized treatment plan is developed based on a patient's needs.
Family Recovery Programs
We are committed to assisting families in their recovery from substance abuse and invite them to participate in weekly Family Program Sessions. Forsyth Substance Abuse Services provide family group therapy to assist them in their understanding and participation in the recovery process.
Continuing Care
Studies show that people who complete treatment, attend continuing care and go to Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings on a regular and frequent basis recover at remarkably high rates. Continuing care sessions are offered once per week after completion of treatment. These groups are held during the day and evenings.
Substance Abuse Education Program
Some patients in the early stages of substance abuse do not need a highly intensive level of care. This program is intended to educate the beginner user on the short and long-term effects of substance abuse, and the benefits of arresting the problem in its early stages. The goal is to prevent substance abuse dependence by stopping the problem before it progresses to active addiction.
