Mobile Mammography Unit

Mobile Mammography Unit
The Breast Clinic's Mobile Mammography Unit offers the same state-of-the art technology as in-house mammography machines, just with more convenience.
In 2002, the Forsyth Medical Center Foundation received a gift from BB&T to upgrade the Breast Clinic's mobile unit. Because of the gift from BB&T, the Breast Clinic was able to purchase the coach and continue the successful mobile service. Prior to getting the new unit, the FDA changed the regulations on the portable machines being used, which meant the machine they were using would no longer be accredited.
The mobile unit has state-of-the-art mammography equipment, ensuring the same high quality of care for all patients whether they are seen on the mobile coach or at the Breast Clinic. Physicians cannot refer patients to the mobile unit, but can request the coach be brought to the practices to screen their patients. Many companies and businesses ask for the unit to be brought on site to allow their employees the opportunity for a mammogram.
This service has reached many people who may not otherwise get a mammogram. The coach travels to many areas and businesses in Forsyth County and surrounding counties and as far away as Madison and Boone. The coach travels about four days a week, with the exception of holidays.
In 2002, the Breast Clinic's mobile unit screened approximately 4500 patients. There are two full-time, certified mammography specialists that staff the unit.
