Early Detection
Lung Cancer
While there are no truly effective screening methods for early detection of lung cancer, there are some things you can do to find it early.
Recent studies have shown that x-rays or CT scans ordered by your primary physician have been helpful in detecting lung cancer in its early stages.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, check with your primary care physician or pulmonologist to determine if a diagnostic test is appropriate.
  • A cough that does not go away
  • Chest pain, often made worse by deep breathing
  • Hoarseness
  • Weight loss or loss of appetite
  • Bloody or rust-colored sputum (spit or phlegm)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Recurring infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia
  • New onset of wheezing
Forsyth Medical Center offers many diagnostic procedures for lung cancer.
