Radio Frequency Ablation
| Radio frequency ablation is used to treat rapid heartbeats. It is a non-surgical procedure performed in the Forsyth Cardiac and Vascular Center's electrophysiology lab. |
Sometimes individuals will suffer from rapid, uncoordinated heartbeats. To treat this condition, the Forsyth Cardiac and Vascular Center offers a treatment called radio frequency ablation.
This procedure is recognized as one of the most effective treatments for eliminating fast heartbeats. During the procedure, a catheter is inserted through the groin and guided all the way to the heart. When the catheter reaches the area to be treated, radio frequency energy is then delivered to the treatment site. The energy destroys the heart tissue that was causing the rapid impulses of the heart.
