Post-offer Screenings
This screening assesses whether a newly-hired employee can physically perform tasks that are required in the job for which they were hired.
Benefits of Post-offer Screenings
  • Provides an ADA-compliant test of the physical capabilities of a newly-hired employee
  • Allows employer to match the worker's abilities to job demands and helps prevent injuries
  • Decreasing injuries can decrease injury-related costs, improve productivity and improve overall bottom line
  • Employer makes the decision of where to place the employee
  • Physical abilities testing should be paired with a medical screen by a physician and a drug screening for a full post-offer screeening process
Steps in Developing a Post-offer Screening
  • Perform a Job Demands Analysis to identify the essential job demands
  • Customize the screening
  • Establish procedures to use
  • Test incumbents
  • Modify the test as needed
  • Implement the screening process
The Post-offer Screening should be integrated into a comprehensive program that includes:
  • Graded work entry
  • Education and training
  • Hazard prevention and control
  • Fitness/wellness
  • Post-injury management
