Intra-arterial Thrombolytic Administration
| Intra-arterial thrombolytic administration is an innovative technique for those suffering acute damage from an ischemic stroke. |
Intra-arterial thrombolytic administration can be very effective if performed within six hours after the stroke. This treatment involves the insertion of a microcatheter through a tiny incision in the groin.
The catheter is threaded into the brain to the site of the clot, where clot-busting drugs are delivered directly to the problem area. Compared to administering these drugs intravenously, this procedure reduces the total amount of drug received by the patient, thus lowering the risk of complication.
Intra-arterial thrombolytic administration has a high success rate, with 40 percent of stroke patients having minimal or no diasbility following treatment.
