Common Symptoms of Depression

It's normal to be sad from time to time, but when that sadness takes over your life, you may be suffering from depression. About twice as many women than men suffer from depression, an illness that affects the body, mood and thoughts.
People with depression may feel hopeless, worthless or sad and lack the energy or interest to do anything. Depression can be caused by changes in your brain chemistry, difficult emotional periods in your life or as a side effect of certain medications for cancer, heart problems and high blood pressure. Depression can also run in your family.
If you have constant feelings of sadness, worthlessness, guilt or helplessness or thoughts about death, don't struggle alone. Forsyth Medical Center can help you through this illness by connecting you with doctors and therapists to help treat your depression. It's not your fault you're depressed, and at Forsyth Medical Center, we want to help you feel better.
