Nurse Internship Program

About the Program
Our Nursing Internship Program was created to allow graduate nurses time to gradually assume the duties and responsibilities which accompany the nursing role, under the direction and guidance of a Preceptor and other members of the healthcare team. In this Orientation program, participants spend time in unit orientation, complimented by additional classroom and group learning experiences. Orientation continues beyond the completion of the program by the unit preceptors for as long as necessary to assure competent performance of the new nurses.
Eligibility
Our Nurse Internship program is designed for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses who have successfully completed an accredited bachelors or associates degree nursing program and passed the state board exam. Licensed Practical Nurses who have passed the state exam should also apply for this program. Any RN or LPN who has less than one year of experience practicing must begin in this program. An Internship Agreement must be signed before beginning work as a New Graduate nurse.
Scheduling
Orientation length varies depending on position. The LPN is approximately eight weeks in length. Program length is 12 weeks for RNs entering Med-Surg areas and six months for RNs entering Critical Care areas. Shifts and schedules vary depending on the unit.
Application Process:
Positions fill quickly, so please apply early! Our new graduate positions are limited, creating a highly competitive program. Although there is no application deadline, it will work in your favor to submit the components of your application as soon as possible. We begin accepting applications as early as six months before your graduation date.

Other application information:
After submitting your online application, you should expect a phone call within 1-2 weeks about your areas of interest and possible interview scheduling. If granted an interview, you will first meet with a Nurse Recruiter. Once approved by the recruiter, your application will be forwarded to managers in your departments of interest for possible further interviews. The nurse recruiter will notify you when a manager has asked to make you an offer. If you accept and are still finishing your nursing program, the position will usually be held for you to allow time for graduation and passing the state board exam. When your license is posted to the North Carolina Board of Nursing website and we have received all of the components of your application, we are able to schedule you to begin the orientation program.
Open Houses
Each Spring and Fall semester we hold an Open House as an opportunity for students to have personal interviews with managers within the hospital. In some cases, Open House interviews may serve as your only employment interview, as job offers are often made as a result of this event. To request an invitation to the next Open House, call 1.800.777.1876. You may interview with managers in three different areas of the hospital.
