Winston-Salem, NC (May 14, 2005) - Today, the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health is hosting the second annual Speaking of Women's Health national conference, a highly acclaimed full-day program focused on women's health, well-being and personal safety. More than 850 women from northwest North Carolina will attend the conference at the M.C. Benton, Jr. Convention & Civic Center.
Winston-Salem joins 40 major metropolitan areas - including New York, Dallas, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and other major cities as a location of the health conference. Tickets for today's event sold out 20 days after they went on sale in February, three months in advance of the event.
Women of all ages will enjoy presentations from experts in women's health. They will receive free health and beauty screenings and attend breakout sessions on topics such as heart health, emotional wellness, menopause, exercise, hair coloring and identity theft.
The day will also feature two nationally known keynote speakers. Victoria Moran, certified life coach and author of several books, including "Younger by the Day: 365 Ways to Rejuvenate Your Body and Revitalize Your Spirit," is the keynote speaker at the opening session. Nancy Coey, noted speaker, humorist and author of "Finding Gifts in Everyday Life," is the keynote speaker in the closing session.
The conference includes continental breakfast and an elegant, sit-down luncheon. At the end of the day, participants will go home with wonderful gifts bags and sponsor premiums. All proceeds from the conference stay in Winston-Salem to support the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health's ongoing educational programs for women in Forsyth County and Northwest North Carolina.
"Last year's Speaking of Women's Health event raised $150,000 for the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health and ultimately for the women of northwest North Carolina," said Paul Wiles, president and CEO of Novant Health. "The center has pioneered new strategies to reach underprivileged, young mothers-to-be, reducing infant mortality in Forsyth County. Our list of clinical services and educational outreach programs is extensive and seeks to serve women at whatever stage in life they are. Funding from the Speaking of Women's Health conference will help us meet the healthcare information, education, screening and service needs of all women," he said.
The Sara Lee Center for Women's Health at Forsyth Medical Center offers health education and medical services for women at all stages of life. It is the second-largest birthing center in North Carolina, delivering more than 6,000 babies each year. The Sara Lee Center for Women's Health also offers a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which admits more high-risk, low-birth babies annually and has one of the highest success rates of any NICU in the country.
