WINSTON-SALEM, September 14, 2006 Forsyth Medical Center (FMC) has been recognized for its security and safety programs by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety. The organization awarded FMCs Public Safety Department its 2006 Lindberg Bell Award recognizing the medical center's innovation and measurable improvement in facility safety and security.
"Transformation is the best way to characterize the overall safety and security advances made at Forsyth Medical Center," says Sallye Liner, FMC's chief operating officer. "We've moved from traditional hospital security to a 21st Century security program on our campus that combines leading technology with innovative approaches to provide a higher standard of safety for our patients, visitors and employees."
FMC's Director of Public Safety Anthony Potter says the plan now in place at the medical center includes a state-of-the-art communications center, advanced surveillance and security equipment and extensive training for public safety staff and officers.
"With nearly 10,000 people at Forsyth Medical Center each day, public safety is one of the medical center's major areas of investment and continuing improvement," says Potter. "It's an honor to receive this level of award from an organization that represents public safety professionals internationally."
Forsyth Medical Center received the award at the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety annual conference held in San Jose, California.
The International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety was formed in 1968 by public safety professionals in healthcare security to address changes in how healthcare providers can improve safety and security at their institutions.
