Forsyth Medical Center exists to improve the health of the communities we serve. We do this by providing all the facets of healthcare - the facilities, the technology and the people -- to help everyone who comes to us live full and healthy lives.
We also take our mission out to the community. This includes hundreds of programs that serve our patients, our neighbors and some of our community's most vulnerable citizens. We provide charity and community benefit care, which includes our financial commitment to providing unreimbursed health services both to individuals with Medicaid coverage and to those who are treated in our emergency department, which provides 24-hour medical care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
We also sponsor community health education and support groups; partnerships with other organizations to provide outreach services; and community events and screenings. And we participate in medical research and academic health programs, along with community initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity, the March of Dimes and United Way.
Our outreach programs are either donated or provided at little cost -- a commitment that comes from our heritage as a not-for-profit organization.
We offer Women's Heart Advantage, a nationwide initiative focused on educating women that heart disease is their number one health risk, and we've also taken a leading role in the Community Care Center in Winston-Salem, where patients line up for free medical and dental care several nights a week. The clinic is housed in a former physicians' practice bulding, which is donated free of charge by Forsyth Medical Center -- and many of our doctors and nurses volunteer there.
We're proud of our community service programs that help improve the health and lives of people in the Piedmont Triad. And we're proud, most of all, of our employees who give of their skills and of themselves.
