About the Program

Novant Health recognizes the importance of gaining experience in a hospital setting during your nursing school education. Our SNAP program was designed to provide this experience; allowing participants to apply their classroom knowledge to our exciting hospital atmosphere. Hands-on experience and observation opportunities will give you a greater understanding of the field of nursing, increase your knowledge, and strengthen your confidence. Participants will gain the valuable experience of working closely with a registered nurse (RN) preceptor to assist in providing care for a wide variety of patients in a designated unit. Throughout the program, regular meetings are held for SNAP participants as an opportunity to share and discuss your experiences with your peers.

Eligibility

Our SNAP program is designed for nursing students who are currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed their junior year of RN training (one or two semesters from graduation). All SNAP participants are required to have certified nursing assistant II (CNA) licensure before beginning work.

Scheduling

The program lasts approximately 8-10 weeks and usually begins in late May. Most available positions are full-time; however some units will have part-time openings. The schedule and shift will be determined by the unit. SNAP positions are available in many units throughout the hospital, with the number of positions varying each year for each unit. In some cases, managers may ask if you would like to continue employment as a CNA II after the SNAP program is complete.

Application Process

Positions fill quickly, so please apply early! Although there is no official deadline for applications, this program is highly competitive, so it will work in your favor to submit the components of your application as soon as possible.
