Arteriovenous Malformations TreatmentTreatment of arteriovenous malformation (AVM). An arteriovenous malformation occurs when the blood vessels of the brain become tangled, keeping blood from circulating properly through the brain. This can lead to serious problems, including seizures, stroke and bleeding in the brain. Brain Aneurysm TreatmentTreatment of brain (cerebral) aneurysm. Aneurysm occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bulges or balloons. If an aneurysm bursts, the resulting bleeding into the brain is known as hemorrhagic stroke. If not treated quickly, aneurysms can cause severe permanent disability or death. Brain Tumor TreatmentBrain tumors are abnormal masses of cells that form in the brain. Brain tumors may be cancerous or non-cancerous. But a tumor can still be harmful even if cancer is not present, since it may press on critical areas of the brain as it grows. Carotid Artery Disease TreatmentCarotid artery disease occurs when the major arteries in your neck become narrowed or blocked. These arteries supply your brain with blood. They extend from your aorta, in your chest, to the brain. Surgery removes plaque and clots from the carotid arteries and may help prevent a stroke from occurring. Carotid Artery Stenosis TreatmentCarotid artery stenosis is a narrowing of the carotid arteries, which bring oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Patients with carotid artery stenosis are at a greater risk for stroke. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome TreatmentCarpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which the nerve that leads from the forearm to the hand becomes pressed, causing the patient to feel pain, weakness or numbness in the hand and wrist. Cerebral Hemorrhage TreatmentCerebral hemorrhage is bleeding in the brain that results from a stroke or trauma to the brain. Cerebral hemorrhage is potentially fatal if not treated. Degenerative Spine Disease TreatmentDegenerative spine diseases include a wide range of chronic spine problems, such as disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spondylosis and spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebrae). Disc Herniation TreatmentAlso called a slipped or ruptured disc, a herniated disc occurs when a piece of the spine’s soft inner layer pushes through a tear in its outer lining and enters the spinal canal. Patients with disc herniation often have pain that shoots down one leg or a feeling of pain or numbness in the lower back. Head Injury TreatmentBecause the brain is very complex, every head injury is different. Some symptoms may appear right away, while others may not show up for days or weeks after the injury. We use a variety of diagnostic tools to help identify the type of injury and determine the best course of treatment. Hydrocephalus TreatmentHydrocephalus is a brain swelling resulting from a build-up of fluid inside the brain. Untreated hydrocephalus can result in brain damage and death. Kyphosis TreatmentKyphosis is a spinal deformity of the upper back, also known as "humpback," that can be caused by developmental problems, arthritis or degenerative spine diseases. Lower Back Pain TreatmentLower back pain is pain in the lower, or lumbar, region of the spine. Lower back pain can be the result of an injury, such as a sprain, or a chronic condition, such as arthritis. MicrosurgerySurgery utilizing a microscope to enable doctors to operate on very small areas and to get a magnified view of the area. Microsurgery is used to target a specific area and to protect as much of the surrounding healthy tissue as possible. Neck and Back Pain TreatmentPatients may suffer from neck and back pain as a result of injury or as a symptom of a problem such as osteoarthritis or disc herniation. Neck and Back Pain TreatmentPatients may suffer from neck and back pain as a result of injury or as a symptom of a problem such as osteoarthritis or disc herniation. Occupational Back Injury TreatmentOccupational back injuries are injuries that a patient receives in the workplace, often requiring the need for treatments such as surgery and physical therapy. Osteoporosis / Compression Fracture TreatmentOsteoporosis occurs when the bone tissue becomes thin, weak and brittle, raising a person’s risk for bone fractures. Peripheral Neuropathy TreatmentPeripheral neuropathy is a condition resulting from nerve damage in areas of the body such as the hands and feet. Neuropathy causes symptoms such as numbness, pain and muscle weakness, and paralysis. Scoliosis TreatmentScoliosis is an abnormally curved spine, which usually begins forming around the time a child starts puberty. Spinal Column Tumor TreatmentSpinal column tumors are abnormal masses of cells that forms in the spinal column. Spinal column tumors may be cancerous or non-cancerous. But a tumor can still be harmful even if cancer is not present, since it may press on the spinal cord as it grows. Spinal Fusion TreatmentA surgical procedure to stabilize the spine by permanently connecting two vertebrae. This can be done to treat problems such as low back pain or broken vertebrae. Spinal Stenosis TreatmentSpinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spine, which puts painful pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. Patients with spinal stenosis can also have coordination problems, loss of sensation in certain areas of the body, and bladder or bowel problems. Spinal Trauma / Fracture TreatmentDamage to the bones of the spine, including fractures or breaks, can occur due to a wide range of injuries. This can result in pain, movement problems or paralysis is the injury is severe enough to affect the spinal cord itself. Spine Fracture TreatmentSpine fractures are breaks in the bones that make up the spine, as a result of injury or diseases such as osteoporosis. Spondylolisthesis (Slipped Vertebrae) TreatmentSpondylolisthesis (slipped vertebrae) is a condition in which one of the vertebrae of the back slips down over the one below it. This can squeeze the nerves in the spine, causing pain, numbness or muscle weakness. Spondyloysis TreatmentSpondyloysis is a degenerative osteoarthritis of the joints in the spine, or general "wear and tear." Subdural and Epidural Hemorrhage TreatmentSubdural and epidural hemorrhages occur when there is bleeding in the brain that pools in the brain’s outer lining, causing dangerous pressure to be put on the brain. Traumatic Brain Injury TreatmentTraumatic brain injury is caused by a severe blow to the head or penetration by an object. Traumatic brain injury can range from concussion to more serious problems such as bleeding in the brain and paralysis. Ulnar Nerve Disorder TreatmentUlnar nerve disorders develop when there is damage to the nerve running from the shoulder to the hand. This can cause problems with moving the fingers, as well as numbness, pain and weakness in the hands. Ultrasonic Aspirator SurgeryHigh frequency sound waves break up tumors; then an aspirator vacuums the tumor fragments. Vascular Spine Malformation TreatmentVascular spine malformation is a condition in which the blood vessels of the spine become tangled, keeping blood from circulating properly and causing the cells in the spinal tissue to die. Patients with vascular malformation of the spine often have problems with balance, numbness or tingling, headaches and even paralysis. Forsyth Brain and Spine Surgery
