Alzheimer's Disease Treatment

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative form of dementia.  There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but treatments may offer some relief of symptoms.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) / ALS Treatment

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a serious degenerative, ultimately fatal, neurological disease that causes muscle weakness and disability. There is currently no cure for ALS, but treatments may offer some relief of symptoms.

Arteriovenous Malformations Treatment

Treatment of arteriovenous malformation (AVM). An arteriovenous malformation occurs when the blood vessels of the brain become tangled, keeping blood from circulating properly through the brain.  This can lead to serious problems, including seizures, stroke and bleeding in the brain.

Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Injection Therapy

Botulinum toxin (Botox) injection therapy has proven to be useful in the treatment of many neurological conditions such as muscle spasms, urinary retention, migraines and stuttering.

Brain Aneurysm Treatment

Treatment of brain (cerebral) aneurysm. Aneurysm occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bulges or balloons.  If an aneurysm bursts, the resulting bleeding into the brain is known as hemorrhagic stroke.  If not treated quickly, aneurysms can cause severe permanent disability or death.

Carotid Artery Disease Treatment

Carotid artery disease occurs when the major arteries in your neck become narrowed or blocked.  These arteries supply your brain with blood.  They extend from your aorta, in your chest, to the brain.  Surgery removes plaque and clots from the carotid arteries and may help prevent a stroke from occurring.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which the nerve that leads from the forearm to the hand becomes pressed, causing the patient to feel pain, weakness or numbness in the hand and wrist.

Concussion Treatment

Concussion is a brain injury that can be caused by a blow to the head, often resulting in problems with speech, balance, coordination and memory.

Degenerative Spine Disease Treatment

Degenerative spine diseases include a wide range of chronic spine problems, such as disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spondylosis and spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebrae).

Disc Herniation Treatment

Also called a slipped or ruptured disc, a herniated disc occurs when a piece of the spine’s soft inner layer pushes through a tear in its outer lining and enters the spinal canal.  Patients with disc herniation often have pain that shoots down one leg or a feeling of pain or numbness in the lower back.

Epilepsy/Seizure Treatment

Treatment of seizures and epilepsy. Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes seizures, or attacks that may include uncontrollable jerking of the arms and legs, loss of consciousness and disorientation.  The exact causes of epilepsy are not known, but it can be related to things like head injuries, stroke and other diseases such as meningitis.

Essential Tremor Treatment

Essential tremor is an involuntary shaking of the hands, head, arms or legs that may affect a person’s ability to perform simple tasks, such as writing.

Guillian-Barre Syndrome Treatment

Guillian-Barre syndrome is a rare, degenerative nerve condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves, leading to muscle weakness and eventually paralysis.  There is currently no cure for Guillian-Barre syndrome, but treatments may offer some relief of symptoms.

Head Injury Treatment

Because the brain is very complex, every head injury is different.  Some symptoms may appear right away, while others may not show up for days or weeks after the injury.  We use a variety of diagnostic tools to help identify the type of injury and determine the best course of treatment.

Huntington's Disease Treatment

Huntington’s disease is a chronic genetic neurological disease in which a patient’s brain cells break down, causing movement problems, tremors, seizures and mental decline.

Hydrocephalus Treatment

Hydrocephalus is a brain swelling resulting from a build-up of fluid inside the brain.  Untreated hydrocephalus can result in brain damage and death.

Kyphosis Treatment

Kyphosis is a spinal deformity of the upper back, also known as "humpback," that can be caused by developmental problems, arthritis or degenerative spine diseases.

Lower Back Pain Treatment

Lower back pain is pain in the lower, or lumbar, region of the spine.  Lower back pain can be the result of an injury, such as a sprain, or a chronic condition, such as arthritis.

Migraine Headache Treatment

Migraines are headaches that cause severe pain for hours or days and often come with nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound.

Movement Disorders Treatment

Movement disorders are a large group of neurological conditions that affect a patient's normal movements:
Dystonia – A condition in which the muscles of the neck, back, arms or legs contract involuntarily, often as a symptom of another disease, such as Parkinson’s Disease.
Huntington’s Disease - A chronic genetic neurological disease in which a patient’s brain cells break down, causing movement problems, tremors, seizures and mental decline.
Parkinson’s Disease - A progressive neurological disease that causes tremors, dementia and problems with posture, balance, coordination and speech.
Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) - A condition causing leg aches or cramps that may result in involuntary jerking of the leg.  RLS can keep a person from falling asleep or feeling as if they are getting enough rest.
Tics - Sudden, repeated movements of areas of the body such as the face or hands, which the patient cannot control.
Toritcollis  - A "twisted" neck that results from spasms in the neck vertebrae, causing headache, neck pain and stiffness.

Multiple Sclerosis Treatment

Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic degenerative disease of the central nervous system marked by weakness, numbness, loss of muscle coordination and problems with vision, speech and bladder control.  There is currently no cure for multiple sclerosis, but treatments may offer some relief of symptoms.

Muscle Disease Treatment

Muscles diseases are a large family of diseases affecting the muscles that include genetic, immune system, degenerative and inflammatory disorders.

Myasthenia Gravis Treatment

Myasthenia gravis is a muscle disease in which the patient’s muscles are weak or tire easily, resulting in problems such as difficulty moving, speaking and even breathing.

Narcolepsy Treatment

Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness, even if a person gets enough sleep at night.  Narcolepsy is often accompanied by sleep paralysis and frightening dreams or hallucinations just before falling asleep or right after waking up.

Neck and Back Pain Treatment

Patients may suffer from neck and back pain as a result of injury or as a symptom of a problem such as osteoarthritis or disc herniation.

Nerve Block

A nerve block is a form of anesthesia in which medication is injected near a nerve so that pain signals from the nerve cannot pass through.

Occupational Back Injury Treatment

Occupational back injuries are injuries that a patient receives in the workplace, often requiring the need for treatments such as surgery and physical therapy.

Osteoporosis / Compression Fracture Treatment

Osteoporosis occurs when the bone tissue becomes thin, weak and brittle, raising a person’s risk for bone fractures.

Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition resulting from nerve damage in areas of the body such as the hands and feet.  Neuropathy causes symptoms such as numbness, pain and muscle weakness, and paralysis.

Scoliosis Treatment

Scoliosis is an abnormally curved spine, which usually begins forming around the time a child starts puberty.

Sleep Disorders Treatment

Treatment of sleep disorders, which are a group of conditions characterized by an inability to have normal, restful sleep:

Snoring - Harsh breathing sounds that result when the airway is interrupted during sleep.
Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome - Breathing problems during sleep, leading to fatigue and severe sleepiness during the day.
Insomnia - Problems falling or staying asleep.  One of the most common sleep problems, insomnia can be a symptom of many other physical or psychological problems.
Restless Leg Syndrome - A condition causing leg aches or cramps that may result in involuntary jerking of the leg.  RLS can keep a person from falling asleep or feeling as if they are getting enough rest.

Spinal Column Tumor Treatment

Spinal column tumors are abnormal masses of cells that forms in the spinal column.  Spinal column tumors may be cancerous or non-cancerous.  But a tumor can still be harmful even if cancer is not present, since it may press on the spinal cord as it grows.

Spinal Fusion Treatment

A surgical procedure to stabilize the spine by permanently connecting two vertebrae.  This can be done to treat problems such as low back pain or broken vertebrae.

Spinal Stenosis Treatment

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spine, which puts painful pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.  Patients with spinal stenosis can also have coordination problems, loss of sensation in certain areas of the body, and bladder or bowel problems.

Spine Fracture Treatment

Spine fractures are breaks in the bones that make up the spine, as a result of injury or diseases such as osteoporosis.

Spondylolisthesis (Slipped Vertebrae) Treatment

Spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebrae) is a condition in which one of the vertebrae of the back slips down over the one below it.  This can squeeze the nerves in the spine, causing pain, numbness or muscle weakness.

Spondyloysis Treatment

Spondyloysis is a degenerative osteoarthritis of the joints in the spine, or general "wear and tear."

Stroke Rehabilitation

The stroke rehabilitation program helps stroke survivors return to their lives, employment and families by providing a continuum of services, from comprehensive therapy to preparation for home or work re-entry.

Stroke Treatment

Stroke is a serious brain attack in which blood flow to the brain is cut off.  Stroke patients can lose their ability to speak, understand and move properly -- in addition to the risk of dying -- if treatment is not given quickly.

Subdural and Epidural Hemorrhage Treatment

Subdural and epidural hemorrhages occur when there is bleeding in the brain that pools in the brain’s outer lining, causing dangerous pressure to be put on the brain.

TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) Treatment

A transient ischemic attack (TIA), often referred to as "mini stroke," is a change in the blood supply to a particular area of the brain, resulting in brief neurologic dysfunction that persists, by definition, for less than 24 hours. Symptoms vary widely from person to person, depending on the area of the brain involved. The most frequent symptoms include temporary loss of vision, difficulty speaking, weakness on one side of the body and numbness or tingling, usually on one side of the body.

Tremor Treatment

Tremors are twitching or other muscle movements that the patient cannot control, often due to a neurological disease such as Parkinson’s disease.

Trigger Point Injections

Trigger point injection (TPI) is used to treat extremely painful areas of muscle.  A trigger point is a knot or tight, ropy band of muscle that forms when a muscle fails to relax.  The knot often can be felt under the skin and may twitch involuntarily when touched (called a jump sign).

Ulnar Nerve Disorder Treatment

Ulnar nerve disorders develop when there is damage to the nerve running from the shoulder to the hand.  This can cause problems with moving the fingers, as well as numbness, pain and weakness in the hands.

Vestibular Disturbance Treatment

Vestibular disturbances include disorders such as vertigo, dizziness and balance problems as a result of disease or injury to the inner ear.
