Acute Illness Care

Acute illness is a disease with an abrupt onset and usually a short course.

Allergy Shots

Allergy shots or hyposensitization (or allergy desensitization) is a form of immunotherapy in which the patient is vaccinated with progressively larger doses of an allergen to which they have been diagnosed as being sensitive. Hyposensitization can either reduce the severity of symptoms or eliminate hypersensitivity altogether.

Allergy Testing and Treatment

Allergy testing involves having a skin or blood test to determine what substance , or allergen, may trigger an allergic response in a person. Treatment options can range from lifestyle changes to medication to immunotherapy (allergy shots).

Ankle Brachial Index

This test is done by measuring blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm while a person is at rest. Measurements are usually repeated at both sites after five minutes of walking on a treadmill. The ankle brachial index (ABI) result is used to predict the severity of peripheral arterial disease (PAD).

Annual Physicals

A "preventative care" physician visit during which standard health tests are performed, depending on gender and age. Tests may include things such as blood pressure, a breast and/or pelvic exam, prostate exam, cholesterol screening, vaccines or booster shots.

Audiometry

A hearing test usually performed in a soundproof room; the person wears earphones and tones are presented to each ear, one at a time.

Blood Tests

Blood tests can reveal numerous diseases and conditions.

Check-Ups

A brief preventative care visit with a physician or a visit to address a minor or on-going health concern.

Joint Injections (Intra-Articular Injection)

A joint injection is a procedure used in the treatment of inflammatory joint conditions.

Pap Test

A Pap test (also called Pap smear) involves microscopic examination of cells collected from the cervix, used to detect changes that may be cancer or may lead to cancer, and to show noncancerous conditions, such as infection or inflammation.

Preventive Care

Medical and/or dental services aimed at early detection and intervention.

Pulmonary Function Test

A test designed to measure how well the lungs are working. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) gauge how the lungs are carrying out their tasks -- of expanding and contracting (when a person inhales and exhales) and of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide efficiently between the air (or other gases) within the lungs and the blood.

School Physicals

Physicals for students, as required by some schools or athletic programs.

Stress Testing

Stress testing (usually with ECG; also called treadmill or exercise ECG) is a test that is given while a patient walks on a treadmill or pedals a stationary bike to monitor the heart during exercise. Breathing and blood pressure rates are also monitored. A stress test may be used to detect coronary artery disease, and/or to determine safe levels of exercise following a heart attack or heart surgery.
