Winston-Salem, NC- Forsyth Medical Center (FMC) has received a one-year national accreditation for meeting the rigorous standards of performance in the area of cardiac stenting established by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Carotid Stenting Facilities (ICACSF). Forsyth Medical Center is one of only three hospitals in the country to receive accreditation.

The accreditation follows Forsyth Medical Center's participation in a pilot program by the ICACSF to establish national quality standards for carotid stenting.

"The ICACSF is a collaboration among a number of specialty organizations involved in neurological and vascular medicine with the goal of improving patient care," says Donald Heck, MD an interventional neuroradiologist at Forsyth Medical Center and a member of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, an ICACSF sponsoring organization. "This is the first such effort to engage physicians working in these established national quality standards. Hospitals must demonstrate processes which optimize patient safety and patient outcomes which are superior to national benchmarks."
