WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Forsyth Medical Center Imaging – The Breast Clinic is proud to announce it has earned a three-year accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by the American College of Radiology (ACR), making it Winston-Salem’s only ACR-accredited breast MRI facility.
“Having the ability to perform high quality, accurate breast MRI is an important component of The Breast Clinic,” says Lee Ann Naylor, MD, medical director, Forsyth Medical Center Imaging – The Breast Clinic. “Our dedicated breast MRI gives us valuable information about breast cancer and other breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.”
FMCI – The Breast Clinic has been designated as a Breast Center of Excellence by the ACR. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. Having achieved this accreditation means:
•The facility has voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to ensure that it meets nationally-accepted standards of care and image quality.
•The staff is well-qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, and the radiologists are board-certified and well qualified to interpret the images.
•The imaging equipment is state-of-the-art and is appropriate for the exams and procedures which are performed. The facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.
MRI is a noninvasive medical test that uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues and other body structures. A breast MRI is not a replacement for mammography or ultrasound imaging, but rather a supplemental tool which may be used to screen women who are at high-risk for breast cancer, determine the extent of cancer after a new diagnosis, and further evaluate hard-to-assess abnormalities seen on mammography, as well as evaluate other clinical breast problems.
