Breast Cancer Treatment Options

Through continuing research into new treatment methods, women now have more treatment options and hope for survival than ever before.

For More Information

Call us at 336-718-8277 for questions or for more information.

The treatment options for each woman depend on the size and location of the tumor in her breast, the results of lab tests (including hormone receptor tests), and the stage (or extent) of the disease.

Second Opinions

Before starting treatment, the patient might want a second opinion about the diagnosis and treatment plan. Some insurance companies require a second opinion; others may cover a second opinion if the patient requests it.

Medical Oncology Treatments

Chemotherapy -

Chemotherapy is used before surgery, after surgery or to treat cancer as deemed necessary by the medical oncologist.  It is a treatment option if cancer comes back (recurrs).

Biological Therapy - In biotherapy, patients are treated with biological response modifiers, which boost the body's immune system to help fight cancer.

Hormonal Therapy - We offer hormonal therapy as prevention to help slow the growth of cancer cells or destroy them completely.

Radiation Oncology Treatments

  • MammoSite -
MammoSite is a form of radiation therapy that works from the inside, meaning that a higher daily dose can be used for a shorter period of time--five days versus five to seven weeks. Ask your oncologist if MammoSite is right for you.

Radiation Therapy - Advanced radiation treatment using a linear accelerator is available in the Radiation Oncology Department Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.  Individualized plans are designed based on cancer location and staging.
