The Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center was one of the first cancer centers in the country to offer patient navigation.
Our cancer navigator program offers education about treatment pathways, treatment options and personalized care. Navigators help make sure that people are not only well cared for, but that they also feel cared about.
Our program serves patients diagnosed with the following cancers:
-
Breast
-
Lung
- Gastrointestinal
- Thoracic
- Prostate
The navigator's initial job is to meet with the patient and review what doctors have told them about their disease and treatment options, and then answer any questions on the potential side effects of the treatment to help the patient make an informed decision. Throughout the treatment process, Navigators help to coordinate the patient's care, staying in frequent contact with the patient to make sure they are comfortable with the treatment and to answer questions that may arise that they don't feel comfortable asking the doctor or don't know who else to ask.
