The support groups offered by the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center are free to anyone in the community regardless of insurance status, physician or hospital affiliation. All groups are open to patients, family and friends. Our staff works in close collaboration with the volunteer office, chaplains office, community care services, community therapists, the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society and Cancer Services to provide a comprehensive support program.
Here are some of the support groups we offer:
Look Good, Feel Better
Look Good, Feel Better is a free, national public service program to help women who are undergoing cancer treatment. This program teaches women coping skills for dealing with appearance-related side effects of treatment, which may include hair loss and changes in complexion and fingernails. Look Good, Feel Better is a product-neutral (no specific product, brand or manufacturer is recommended or endorsed) and makes no medical claims. Sessions and materials are provided at no charge. This program is held on the second Monday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.
Feel Good Friday
Feel Good Friday gives patients and their caregivers a chance to be pampered with manicures, massages and other fun activities. This event takes place the first Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.
Lung Cancer Support Group
The lung cancer support group meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cancer Services.
Colorectal Wellness Support Group
The colorectal wellness support group meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cancer Services.
Pink Broomstick Breast Cancer Group
Through this program, women who have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy are matched with an agency volunteer who has had the same surgery. The volunteer will visit the woman to deliver literature, a temporary prosthesis, rehabilitation exercise information and provide emotional support. This group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 12 p.m. at Cancer Services.
CLIMB Program for Family
Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery - Helping kids and families cope with cancer. For children ages 6 - 11 whose parent or grandparent is undergoing cancer treatment. This program meets on the first Monday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. at Cancer Services.
Caregivers Support Group
This support group is an information and resource sharing support group for family of caregivers and cancer survivors. Caregivers support group meets every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.
US TOO Prostate Cancer Support Group
This prostate cancer education and support group meets the second Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Education
The leukemia and lymphoma education and support group meets the third Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.
