The symptoms of a TIA are identical to that of a stroke, but they may last for only a few minutes and usually disappear within 24 hours:
- Sudden severe, unexplained headache
- Sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion or difficultt speaking or understanding
- Sudden blurred vision, dimness or loss of vision in one or both eyes
- Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or coordination problems
These symptoms can be easy to ignore, especially once they go away. But remember: a TIA is a warning sign that gives you an opportunity to reduce a future - an potentially deadly - stroke. Call for medical help immediately if you suspect a person is having a TIA, as it may be a warning sign that a stroke is about to occur.
