Being able to return home after treatment of stroke, other neurological disease or injury is a vital part of recovery. Our patients receive both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation care at the Forsyth Rehabilitation Center, which offers a full range of rehabilitation services at a number of locations. Our inpatient care is available at the Whitaker Rehabilitation Center, located on the main campus of Forsyth Medical Center. Our outpatient care is available at the Martinat Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, which has seven locations throughout northwest North Carolina.
For victims of stroke, our stroke rehabilitation program helps survivors return to their lives, work and families by providing comprehensive therapies. Our program includes:
Advances in speech therapy, such as specialized technology that checks a patient's swallowing reflex from inside the throat
Vitalstem therapy (electronic stimlulation of the trachea) to stimulate and help patients regain their swallowing reflex
Botox injections to reduce limb spasticity
Bioness H200 to improve hand movement and the ability to grasp objects
Bioness L300 to improve foot drop symptoms and help you walk more safely and easily
Our rehabilitation staff includes therapists who are nationally certified in physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Physical Therapy - Our skilled physical therapists will help you or your family member regain or keep the ability to move following a neurological illness such as a stroke, with therapies designed to strengthen muscles and improve coordination and range of motion.
Occupational Therapy - For patients who have had injuries or illnesses that affect their ability to perform daily tasks at home or work, our skilled occupational therapists can help improve coordination and strength, especially in the hands and arms, so you can cook, dress, bathe and exercise as you did before your injury or illness.
Speech Therapy - For patients who have had head injuries or illnesses such as stroke, our skilled speech therapists will help you or your family member regain the ability to speak and process language. Our speech therapists can also work with patients who have lost their ability to swallow.
