Conducting clinical research is important because it makes the latest treatment opportunities and medications available to you. Listed below are a few studies Forsyth Medical Center is involved in:

  • React Stroke Study:
    This study is testing a new neuroprotective agent, primarily for use within the first six hours after stroke symptom onset.
  • Abest 2 Stroke Study:An agent called Abciximab, an anti-platelet compound, is used in this study for acute ischemic stroke.
  • SB 249417: This study involves the use of a monoclonal IgG antibody for human Factor IX to limit any ongoing thrombosis.
  • SAMMPRIS: Stending and Agessive Medical Management for Prevention of Recurrent Stroke in Intracranial Stenosis. This study tests patient with TIA or nondisabling stroke within 30 days due to intracranial stenosis of a major cerebral artery.
  • ACT 1: Intracranial Cariod revascularization Trial. Patients with severe (>70%) asymptomatic cartoid artery stenosis are treated with cartoid artery stenting or cartoid endarterectomy.
  • SAPPHIRE / CHOICE / CABANA: Cartoid stent registries fro symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with higher than normal risk for endarterectomy due to cardiac, pulmonary or anatomic factors.
  • CREST: Cartoid Revascularization with Endarterectomy vs. Stent Trial. Study compares cartoid endarterectomy and cartoid stenting.
