Forsyth Medical Center will follow the instructions expressed in a patient's advance directive to the extent required by law. For patients who are unable to make, or make known, medical decisions and do not have an advance directive, Forsyth Medical Center will get consent from the patient's spouse, parents, guardian, nearest relative or other person authorized to speak for the patient.

There may be a time when you are called upon to make a difficult decision about life-sustaining treatment, either for yourself or a family member. Forsyth Medical Center has an Ethics Committee to help you in such circumstances.

Those who want more peace of mind at home may wish to take advantage of Lifeline, a personal emergency response system which links patients to 24-hour assistance at the push of a button.
