The Labor and Delivery Experience
Arrival
If you are feeling comfortable, you can park in the parking deck and take the elevator down to the first floor of the parking deck. Once outside the elevator on the first floor, proceed to the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health information desk in the north tower. If you are not comfortable and need assistance, you can pull up to the front of the hospital at the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health entrance where you can be placed in a wheelchair and receive assistance.
Admissions
If you arrive between the hours of 6:00 am and 11:00 pm, and you have pre-registered, proceed to the OB Admissions area on the first floor.
Labor & Birthing Suites
The Birthing suites are located on the fourth floor in six, four room clusters. These rooms are where you will be in labor, deliver your baby and recover from the delivery. Each room is fully equipped with a birthing bed, fetal monitoring equipment, closet for your personal items, full bathroom including a tub and shower, and other amenities. The Obstetric Operating Rooms, where Caesarean births occur, are located adjacent to the labor and delivery unit.
Family Waiting Room
The Sara Lee Center for Women's Health has a comfortable waiting room available for familiies on the first floor behind the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health information desk. There is also a waiting room outside of the Birthing Suites on the fourth floor.
Visiting Policies
You may have four people with you while you are in the Birthing Suites. These visitors must be either in your room or in the waiting room on the fourth floor. If you have other children, they may visit or stay with you as you desire. Young children must be accompanied by an adult whose only responsibility is caring for the child. This adult must be a different person than the one who is supporting the mother through labor.
Mother & Baby Room
After you have recovered from your deliver, you will be moved t a Mother/Baby room. Located on the third floor, all of these rooms are private, and include private baths. After your baby's initial time in the nursery, your baby will remain in your room where one nurse will care for both of you.
Getting to Know Your Baby
We encourage you to practice basic infant care skills such as feeding, diapering and bathing. Your nurse will assist and answer any questions you may have.
