The length of stay will vary for each patient, but is usually between one and two days with a vaginal birth and three to four days with a cesarean birth. Check out time for mom and baby is typically mid to late morning. Please ensure that your ride is scheduled to arrive before noon.
On the day of discharge, you can expect the following:
-
Your doctor will write your discharge orders and give you instructions on caring for yourself at home.
-
Your nurse will review discharge care instructions with you.
-
Your baby's doctor or the hospital pediatrician will discharge your baby and give you care instructions.
-
You will be asked to sign discharge forms for you and your baby.
You or your representative will visit the cashier's office to review your insurance information and get your parking ticket validated.
When it is time to go home, you and your baby will be taken downstairs in a wheelchair. A cart will be provided to help you move your belongings. The person driving you home will bring the car from the parking deck to the discharge area in the front of the hospital.
State law requires that you secure your infant in a car seat before leaving the hospital. To make discharge as smooth as possible, please know the manufacturers instructions for installing the car seat in your car and for securing your infant in the car seat.
