The Breast Clinic offers the latest in breast technology, including the stereotactically guided breast biopsy. The stereotactically guided breast biopsy uses computer technology that enables doctors to locate and obtain a sample of the precise center of the area in question. The procedure uses x-rays taken from multiple anglescalled stereo x-rays and a special biopsy needle. This technique is rapidly replacing the more traditional method of surgical biopsy, which requires an incision and removal of tissue.
Benefits
- No external scarring of the breast and no internal scarring that may interfere with future mammograms
- No lengthy wait for test results; reports are usually available the next business day
- No exposure to general anesthesia
- No prolonged recovery period
